Hersh on Bush's Iran plans.

Seymour Hersh's new article in the New Yorker is a must read. Absolutely terrifying.

A government consultant with close ties to the civilian leadership in the Pentagon said that Bush was “absolutely convinced that Iran is going to get the bomb” if it is not stopped. He said that the President believes that he must do “what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do,” and “that saving Iran is going to be his legacy.””

His legacy. Ohhh boy.

But wait, there's more...lot's more. The really scary bits concern the Bush Administration's willingness to go with a nuclear first strike.

Just read it. You have to read it.

Holy Nuclear Bunker Buster, Batman!

The Union of Concerned Scientists has a very informational animation up about the effects of detonating just one nuclear bunker buster. Holy crap!! This is a must see -- particularly in light of Hersh's New Yorker article.

Well, better hope somebody's sane enough in the Bush administration to keep the Chimperor from pushing the button. And if no one is sane enough, we'd all better hope really, really hard that there are no biological weapons stored down in those bunkers.

Fortune Cookies and me

I'm notorious among my friends for my ability to take any fortune cookie and find a negative connotation to the fortune. Do I have a negative outlook? Sure. Am I a little paranoid? Perhaps. But this latest cookie...

"You are wise to keep your eyes wide open at all times."

Come on! It's not just me. That's a warning! Am I right?

CBS's Lara Logan rocks!

Howie Kurtz tries to pull "the press doesn't show the good news in Iraq" meme on CBS Iraq correspondent Lara Logan, and she passionately proves that that canard is completely false. At last somebody stands up and just kicks the Bush apologists' ass. Live, from Baghdad, no less.

Rachel Sklar has the story here. Go read it!

Crooks and Liars has the video here. It's well worth watching.

If you don't have the bandwith for the video, CNN's transcript is here.

And they say hummingbirds don't share....

Here's a picture of seven of 'my' hummingbirds sharing a six port feeder, while sheltering from the rain.

A Chaos Demon Revealed

"Have you ever seen a chaos demon? They're all slime and antlers. They're disgusting." Spike, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

HA! I'm here to tell you, that description is wrong, wrong, wrong. Here's a picture of the one I have living in my apartment.

Cute, isn't he? Sleeping so innocently? HA! I say again, HA! A few months ago, I adopted a 'special needs' kitten. To make up for his physical infirmity, he compensates by being the most persistent creature on the face of the earth. He never, ever, ever gives up. He never stops. Never.

When he's sleeping is virtually the only time I can get a picture of the demon. If he's awake, I usually just end up with a picture of a gray blur lurching at the lens.

So, the lesson of the day is: chaos demons, despite their antlered and slimy reputation, are actually long haired, gray, with golden eyes with green around the iris. Oh, and they fall down, a lot.

Btw, the chaos demon's name is Cloud.

Revisionist history to the max

There I am, quietly listening to my podcast of yesterday's Al Franken show, guest hosted by Sam Seder, when some right-wing fascist pig gets on the phone and starts thanking god that people of Sam's "ilk" weren't in charge during World War II, when the biggest liberal in the world was slaughtering people in concentration camps.

That's right folks: according to our own homegrown fascists, Hitler was a liberal. And black is white, up is down, and we are well and truly down the rabbit-hole.

And boy howdy, thank goodness Franklin Delano Roosevelt was a conservative Republican, so he could save us from that liberal, Hitler. *stunned silence*

Shameless, insane, or both? You decide.
